Do you ever zone out while someone’s talking? Of course, we all do!

The average human has an 8-second attention span. With so many distractions competing for our time, listening attentively can be surprisingly challenging. Today we’re talking about how you can be a better listener. This will make you a better friend, parent, spouse, boss, employee, co-worker… the list goes on. Giving someone the space to express themselves is the greatest gift you can give, which is why today we’re giving you 6 tools that you can start today, to be a better listener.

We’re living in a time when it’s challenging to be consistently aware and intentional because so many things demand our attention. Our brains haven’t caught up to the technology that’s feeding them, leaving us over-stimulated. Focus is hard. Listening is hard. It’s a challenge to walk into a conversation without my agenda being forefront of my mind and your agenda forefront of yours. With the hectic, chaotic, complicated pace of life today, people are even more committed our own agendas.

When you approach a conversation thinking only of your own agenda, you’re framing new information before you even hear it. It’s important to be open to new information that you’re not looking for but may benefit from learning. Here are six ways to become a better listener and, in turn, a better friend, spouse, parent, boss, employee, co-worker… you get the idea.
